Abstract
The Cerulean Warbler (Setophaga cerulea) is a Nearctic-Neotropical migratory bird that remains in Colombia between
September and March. Available information on its trophic ecology during non-breeding season is scarce and limited to
general records of arthropod consumption, including lepidopterans, dipterans, and arachnids. In 2025, we documented
the foraging behavior of an adult of S. cerulea at the Central Campus of the Universidad de Antioquia in the city of
Medellín, Colombia. Observations included the consumption of hemipterans of the genus Mastigimas (Mastigimatidae)
associated with Cedrela odorata (Meliaceae), as well as interactions with other migratory warbler species. These records
expand current knowledge of S. cerulea’s diet during non-breeding season and suggest a potential role of the species as
a regulator of phytophagous insects in urban environments.
