Abstract
The Plain-breasted Ground Dove (Columbina minuta) exhibits a fragmented and discontinuous distribution from Mexico to Argentina. In western Mexico it inhabits isolated sites. In this work I report the reproduction of C. minuta in Colima, western Mexico, following observations performed from April to August 2025. The site is located 570 km northwest from the closest known population of the species. In particular, I recorded a nest, a fledgling, and a juvenile in a site where agricultural activities prevail. The nest was found over the branch of a Huizache (Vachellia farnesiana), 1.2 m above the ground. To date, there was no reproductive evidence of the species in this region of Mexico. These reports might suggest that Colima has at least one reproductive population of C. minuta, which might represent the most northwestern population of the species. Records of this dove might be overseen as a result of a lack of scientific and leisure birdwatching activities across the region, as well as for misidentification with other species of the same genus, such as C. inca, C. talpacoti and C. passerina.
